Cross Border Tax Workshop


September 21, 2019 - our fourteenth year!
Location: Rome, Italy at the Hotel Parco dei Principe
 
Topic is Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) refers to corporate tax planning strategies used by multinationals to "shift" profits from higher–tax jurisdictions to lower–tax jurisdictions, thus "eroding" the "tax–base" of the higher–tax jurisdictions.  

During the Cross Border Tax Workshop in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2016, the participants talked about the history, the process and the progress of the BEPS Project. Participants from 13 different countries presented different Action Plans of the OECD and the status of realization in the respective countries.
 
This year’s workshop will focus on the developments and the progress since 2016 and the actual status of the implementation of the BEPS Action Plans in the respective local law. 
BEPS is and remains highly topical and the further development of this subject promises to be exciting. We encourage our members to register for the workshop and to share their knowledge and contribute to this interesting topic.  For more information contact Susanne Martius.

It is an exciting conference location - housed in a former post office dating from 1839, this historic hotel is less than a half mile from the National Mall.  A free wine reception is held each evening, the gym is open 24 hours, and bike rentals are complimentary.  We have great Guest Tours on Friday and Saturday and an optional NHL Hockey Game on Sunday night.  Member registration is $795 now ($875 after Sept. 15).  Guest registration is $495.

IRC Section 163(j) and Business Interest Expense Deduction Limitation
 
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act changed the deductibility of business interest expense. This seminar will not only provide the basics of how to calculate the limitation, but will also provide:
 
•       An in-depth explanation of the small business exception including the aggregation rules.
•       How the limitation applies to real estate businesses,
•       Whether the real estate business should elect out of applying the limitation,
•       Process of electing out.
•       A discussion of the complex partnership limitation rules.
•       An overview of the proposed regulations.

Audit & Accounting Committee Meetings

Aug 20Revenue Recognition and a firm approach to complicated industries like construction and others. Identifying and defining significant revenue streams and then disclosing how recognition occurs in each significant stream.

Oct 22The new nonprofit accounting standards went into effect in 2018, and we are now auditing our nonprofit clients who adopted this new guidance.   We will plan to do an update/progress report on what we are seeing in our 2018 audits regarding these changes.  Please come ready to talk about issues you’ve encountered with this year’s audits of your nonprofit clients.

New Marketing Firm                  

Integra is pleased to be working with a new marketing firm - BRND WGN - based in Malta.  BRND WGN will be making a presentation to members at the conference in Washington D.C. and meeting with the Global Board about promoting our Association.
EMEIA UPDATES                  

Integra International is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Franz Schweiger as the Board President for the EMEIA Regional Chapter.  The election took place in June at Integra’s Regional Conference in Munich, Germany.

David Borg, FCCA, FIA Dip. Tax, CPA is a Chartered Accountant and co-founding partner at ARQ and will serve a two year term as Board Vice President.  

And we have a three new Directors:
Helen Volska is the founding partner of EBS in Kiev, Ukraine.  As the Managing Partner and Director, she is a strategist, experienced auditor, an expert in organizational development and financial consulting, Certified Accountant, and FССА Fellow. 

Christos Michaelides represents M.T. Michaelides Co. Ltd in Limassol, Cyprus.  He graduated from the University of Warwick with a BSc in Accounting and Finance in 2015 and he is a qualified member of the ICAEW since 2019. 

Sai Purshotham Batchu is a Chartered Accountant from India,  and is a Senior Partner of B. Purushottam & Co, Chartered Accountants and a third generation Chartered Accountant.  His professional experience encompasses auditing & assurance and business/management advisory services to diverse mix of corporate clients including banking and Public sector enterprises .

FIRM UPDATES

In July, EBS acquired all right to Intercomp-Ukraine, a leading provider of financial and HR outsourcing services.  It is a great step forward and now EBS has almost doubled in size.

Congratulations to HMWC CPAs & Business Advisors in Los Angeles on being named one of the USA's top 300 firms.

Steve Austin at Swenson Advisors in San Diego facilitated a referral of a German Ex-Pat to Ted Chiba at Actus Tax Corporation in Japan.
