The Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS), with a history dating back to 1870, is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Australia with a lengthy list of historical firsts. Most major championships have been held off its shores, with the Squadron being the control centre for the 1956 Melbourne Olympic yachting events, as well as the 1999 Laser World Championships.
At the recently held Annual General Meeting, Greg Marino (Founding Partner of Banks Group and Australasian representative on the AAANZ board of Integra International) was elected as the Commodore of RMYS. Greg won a hotly contested election with a resounding victory announced at the July AGM. Moving from Vice Commodore to the helm of RMYS, Greg has the mandate to progress the building master plan which will see major improvements to the clubhouse and onshore facilities.
Greg has always loved the water, starting surfing at a very young age, and later taking up windsurfing. He started sailing at RMYS about 20 years ago. He owns Portofino, a Farr 38 IMS which has competed in many offshore races, as well as weekly club races in the bay, winning numerous club awards and major interclub events.
Business in Australia
Greg says that as a result of steady investor confidence, Australia remains a major investment destination for foreign investors, ranking as the world’s 7th most attractive destination for foreign direct investment in the 2020 Kearney Foreign Direct Investment Confidence Index.
Australia offers significant opportunities for foreign investment in a range of sectors including agribusiness, mining and minerals processing, renewable energy, medical technology, and wealth management. Investors regard Australia as an excellent place to invest because of its population growth, highly skilled workforce, strategic location, strong record of economic management, and stable governance and regulatory environment.
In today’s increasingly complex world, businesses need advisers and consultants who understand their needs at every stage of their business journey. Banks Group is renowned for its combination of experience, insights, and intelligence to help potential investors or business owners to thrive and face these unique challenges. The ability to collaborate with other successful members of Integra International enables Banks Group to support clients not only in Australia but also abroad.
Greg is confident that Australia has one of the strongest, most competitive, open, and flexible economies in the world. Australia offers real cost advantages for every category of business need, from prime central business district office spaces, metropolitan factory facilities and industrial land, to transport infrastructure and low-cost utilities. There is a strong and enduring tradition of democracy in Australia where rule of law and regulatory frameworks prevail.
Australia’s geographical positioning, business-friendly environment, and numerous trade agreements and concessions make it an attractive business destination in the region.
